12 ideas were selected for the grand finale which was held on 16th September at the American Center, Kolkata. The year-long project culminated with a pitch showcase of the 12 ideas from West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. The jury panel chose three ideas – Most Innovative Idea, Most Promising Idea and Most Impactful Idea.
Deep Chatterjee received the most Innovative Idea for an automatic grass cutter machine, Shweta Das received the Most Promising Idea for making bricks from plastic waste, and Naman Rai received the Most Impactful Idea for a diagnostic strip for early detection of Alzheimer’s and diabetes.
Top 50 applicants, including 11 women, were shortlisted for the Catch Them Young boot camp. The boot camp, organized from September 13-15 at the Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata was attended by 47 participants including 10 women from West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. The ideas covered sectors of automation, tech-enabled services, healthcare, waste management, plastic recycling and other services. Participants were trained on building communication and developing presentation skills, accessing gaps and demands of the business, key resources required, value proposition and customer relationship. They were also oriented on the use of digital media. On the final day of the boot camp the participants presented their ideas to the members of jury where 12 participants were selected for the grand finale.
Catch Them Young Workshop was held in the Neotia University campus, South 24 Paraganas on April 24 and was attended by 24 students. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, Head Administration, Mr. Suhas Mukherjee and E- Cell head Mr. Sunanda Chatterjee also attended. Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay highlighted the importance of the Idea Workshop and conducted the session and Mr. Gaurav Kapoor, Mentor IIMCIP emphasized the potential of Youth entrepreneurship. Problem Statements were shared; students formed 8 groups and presented their ideas. They were also asked to use the Business Plan Canvas and mail their ideas at email@example.com.
Catch Them Young Workshop was held in Asansol Engineering College campus, Asansol in Burdwan on April 26 and was attended by 48 students. The Advisor (A & D) Mr. Atin Choudhury, Principal Dr. Debashish Sarkar, and E- Cell head Mr. Abhijit Debnath also attended. Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay emphasized the significance of Youth as Entrepreneurs and contribution of the U.S Consulate in promoting the same. Catch Them Young initiative and the purpose of the Idea Workshop was also explained. Problem Statements were shared and the students formed groups and finally some commendable ideas emanated. They were advised to forward their ideas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Catch Them Young Idea Workshop was held at Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi on 12th of April. 83 students were present and some dignitaries from the University. Mr Jay Treloar from the American Consulate with two more dignitaries were present. Personalities from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Incubation Lab also attended the session. Mr. Treloar emphasized the significance of Entrepreneurship while being in College and Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay conducted the Idea presentation while 12 students shared their ideas.
Campus Ambassador Meet was held at the Work Studio Co-working, Patna on 11th of April 2019. The event had 9 participants out of which 7 were Campus Ambassadors. Session was introduced by Shalini of Conatct Base and 3 dignitaries of the American Consulate were present. The Deputy Director Mr. Jay Treloar encouraged the students to take up Entrepreneurship as a Career and Life Choice. Mr. Adarsh , Co founder of “DEHAT” shared his experience of forming his Agri Start Up. The session finally culminated with 3 idea presentations from the students.
A workshop was held at Kalyani Government Engineering College, University of Kalyani, Nadia on April 1st, 2019. 50 B. Tech students were present. HOD-Mechanical Engineering and Chairman E-Cell were also present. Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay discussed different aspects of Entrepreneurship, Catch Them Young, Mentoring, Team Building, Importance of creating Value in product or services etc. and also asked the students to think upon various viable business solutions to the Pain points which afflict the Society today and participate in the Idea Contest.
A workshop was conducted at Regent Education and Research Foundation, Barrackpore, on 28th March, 2019. 112 students from B. Tech, MBA and BBA were present and accompanied by the Dean Academics and other officials. Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay emphasized the importance of Innovation, Prototyping, Value Addition etc. He helped them understand the difference of Customer and User. The students were encouraged to participate in the Idea Contest and were advised to submit their ideas.
A session was conducted at Ballygunje Science College, University of Calcutta, on 14th March, 2019. 24 Post Graduate students from the Department of Zoology were present. The main subject of discussion was Entrepreneurship as a Career and Life Choice and the objective of Catch Them Young to promote Entrepreneurship among the students while they were still in College. The session was also attended by HOD-Department of Zoology – Professor Ena Ray Banerjee, who also acknowledged the Significance of Catch Them Young during her Vote of Thanks.
An Idea Workshop was conducted at Techno India University, Salt Lake, Kolkata on 23rd February, 2019 in association with Datasutram and Theorex. 101 students from 16 colleges of West Bengal and Jharkhand attended the session and dignitaries from The University, U.S Consulate Kolkata, Dr. Vivek Bhasme IAS Officer of Department of Health; Government of West Bengal were present. Live problem statements were shared with the students who formed groups and finally 13 groups presented their ideas after consulting the industry experts and mentors who helped the students.
The Idea Workshop at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata was held on 6th February, 2019. Around 30 students of Bachelor of Science were present. While Mr. Sumon Mukhopadhyay initiated the session and introduced Catch Them Young initiative and emphasized Entrepreneurship as a Career choice Mr. Gaurav Kapoor, Mentor IIMCIP shared the roles of incubators and Innovation and discussed parameters like Start Ups, innovation, social impact and viability. Finally, the students were given problem statements and were asked to generate ideas as viable business solutions.
Catch Them Young Idea Workshop was conducted at IIEST Shibpur, Howrah on 30th of January 2019 in association with Data Sutram and Theorex. The session was attended by 55 students mostly from IT background. Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay initiated the session and emphasized the significance of Entrepreneurship as a Career and Life choice. Catch Them Young as an initiative in association with U.S. Consulate, Kolkata, was also introduced. The students were then given problem statements and were asked to generate ideas which can have commercial prospects.
Catch Them Young Networking Meet was held at the American Center, Kolkata on 21st of December, 2018. The meet was initiated by the Director of U.S. Consulate Kolkata, Mr. Jamie Dragon. There were around 80 participants. Entrepreneurs like Kalyan Koley (Sanjivanee Khamar), Priyadarshini Dey (NexConnect), Vishal Dutt (WondaBOX), Md. Tariq (Barkathi Frams) were panelists for the event along with E- Cell coordinators from Jadavpur University, JIS Institute, Techno India, MCKV.
Catch Them Young Networking Meet was held at the Audrey House, Ranchi on 18th of December, 2018. Around 40 students from various colleges participated along with E-Cell coordinators, young entrepreneurs. The event was held in partnership with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Headstart. Ravi Ranjan, Founder, Starting Up with Ravi Ranjan was the chief guest and entrepreneurs like Abhijit Verma (Egyan), Atul Kumar (Shilpkaari), Manish Piyush (Max Digital Solutions) were panelists.
Catch Them Young Networking Meet was held at the Work Studio Co-working, Patna on 19th of December, 2018. The event had 80 participants from various fields of entrepreneurship including college students. The event was held in partnership with Headstart and the chief guest was Sanjay Goenka of Venture Park Incubation fame. Siraj Imam (Founder EMEDIX & Managix Technology), Chandrasekhar (Founder, Material Haat) and Sanjay Shrivastava (Incubator for Rural Businesses) were panelists for the meet.
